However, some hair follicles may remain dormant and gradually regrow over time, so occasional maintenance sessions are often necessary to keep your skin smooth and hair-free. The results can also vary depending on hair type, skin tone, hormonal factors, and which areas you have treated.

Laser hair removal is generally well-tolerated, with most patients describing the sensation as a mild snap or warming feeling on the skin. Sensitivity can vary depending on the treatment area. Smaller or more delicate areas like the upper lip may feel more sensations than larger areas like legs or arms. For extra comfort, we can apply numbing creams or cooling devices prior to treatment to minimize any discomfort.

Generally, laser hair removal works best for patients with darker hair and lighter skin, as the laser works by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle. However, modern laser technology allows safe and effective treatment for a wider variety of skin tones and hair colors.

Ideal candidates should have minimal recent sun exposure and be in good general health. A consultation with your provider helps determine the best laser settings and ensures safe, effective results.

Proper preparation helps maximize results and minimize side effects during your treatments. You’ll want to shave the treatment area 24 to 48 hours before your session to allow the laser to target hair follicles directly.

Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products, as they can increase the risk of irritation or skin damage. Do not wax, pluck, or use depilatory creams in the weeks leading up to treatment—these methods remove the hair follicle that the laser needs to target. Of course, we’ll provide you written instructions to keep on hand during your series of treatments!

After your session, it’s normal to experience mild redness, swelling, or a warm sensation in the treated area. These effects usually subside within a few hours. Over the following 1 to 3 weeks, treated hair will gradually shed naturally.

You may notice some patchy regrowth between sessions, which is expected and will be addressed in subsequent treatments. Sun protection, gentle skincare, and following your provider’s aftercare instructions are key to optimizing results and maintaining smooth, healthy skin.
